Reasons for SEP client to have corrupt Definitions

Has anyone able to figure what causes Symantec Endpoint Protection client virus definitions to corrupt from time to time? Thought there are ways to solve it either by manually clear out definitions or by reinstalling. But if possible to find out what normally causes virus definitions to get corrupted, there might be ways to prevent corrupt definitions from happening in the future. Thanks
