Read,write and execute

Hi All,

I am bit confused with the below statement. 

"access to removable storage, but only for read or write access and not for execute access. This allows users to access documents and
other data on removable media, but does not allow them to install applications or run applications from the removable media."                                                      

what is the differnce between write or execute  technically ?
