SEP 12.1 vs SPE for NAS

Greetings All,

It will be faster for me to just ask the question here than searching on the net for an answer:

What is the intended uses and limitations for:

* SEP 12.1

* SPE for NAS

The reason for this question is simple;

Customer has a Server (Win 2012 R2 DataCentre) installed with SEP 12.1, this server is hosting a share of 30TB in size with currently ~23 million files.

I know that it comes as no suprise that there are perfomance, backup and hosting drives issues.
